Why Customize Employee Training?

Remote learning has only become more present in the modern workforce, and the benefits of individualizing your training content to your company have only become more apparent. Wondering why? Let’s review

Who knows your training needs better?

Pre-developed training content is not built for your individual needs as a trainer. The purpose of custom content is first and foremost to cater to the training requirements that your employees need to meet. Industry regulations, small team training, or certification programs require trainers to think micro when it comes to training.

Less costly over time since you own it

Licensing and month-to-month subscriptions are expensive. The benefit of customizing your training is that you own your training. After the initial costs of creation you are in control of the cost of maintenance!

Easier to update over time

Ownership of your content allows you to change it as needed. A common complaint of pre-made content is that it doesn’t hold up over time. Doesn’t your business change? Doesn’t it grow and evolve over time? Of course it does! So why pay big bucks for content that doesn’t grow or evolve with you?

Increase engagement/retention

It’s a no-brainer that the end goal of employee training is to create an educated, certified workforce. The skillset, expertise, and experience of your employees reflects directly on your business. As a trainer, you know that creating the correct training content increases the engagement of the knowledge retention of trainees. Retention can increase anywhere from 30%-50% by implementing a training process. Less than 30% of employees in the US, however, feel satisfied by the level of training they have received. Break the chain of ineffectiveness by creating a training process that caters to you and your employee’s needs.

You choose how to measure effectiveness

What metrics do you have for measuring the effectiveness of your training? Completion rate? Certifications? Exam scores? Maybe you measure based on errors in the workplace. However you measure training effectiveness, it is tailored to your company. Pre-made training may have industry specific metrics (or maybe not), but it does not instill individualized company values the way personalized metrics can.

Makes onboarding more personal for new employees

Let’s go back to company values. Your veteran employees may already understand and implement the company values, but new hires are only just learning about your company. What do you stand for? How do you communicate that effectively to your new-hires? Personalized content can be a useful tool for setting standards and establishing a value-system.
